Hi I'm a 2nd Year Law student and have just got a position at the Citizen Advice Bureau in London?

Is this a good step, as apparently you get 6 months of your training contract when you complete your CAB training.

Some moaning person said this could be a hindrance as she had done the training which didn't do her or her studies any good.

Truly don't understand that, but then it depends on your passion, and i'm excited to do it as I will be trained in various subjects.

Has anyone trained at the CAB as an adviser?? whats it like, and will it help.Hi I'm a 2nd Year Law student and have just got a position at the Citizen Advice Bureau in London?
I have a feeling that I know what the ';moaning person'; meant. Sometimes, if you take work in the not-for-profit sector, putting that on your CV most definitely is a hindrance and can keep you out of the corporate sector for good.

Does this matter to you, though? This is only a concern if you do eventually want to work in the corporate sector. If you're going to be happy working for charities and so on, then it certainly will be beneficial for you to do it.

Well, at worst, you just leave it off your CV, right?Hi I'm a 2nd Year Law student and have just got a position at the Citizen Advice Bureau in London?
I must admit I don't know what you are talking about BUT I must also say that even if once you've gone through it that you feel you didn't benefit from it in an educational sense - it is going to look good on your resume.

I can't imagine though, that it wouldn't benefit you educationally as well - there is always something to learn. You could also make some important contacts for your future.

Good luck to you - follow your dream and don't let anyone rain on it.

I'm afraid I can't answer your question directly but I felt I had to tell you well done. I always wanted to study law.. it was my passion and I let the opportunity pass me by. Keep up the good work! congrats on your new job and Happy new year x
I agree that all good career choices are about following a passion.

I'm not sure about the thing on 6 months of your training contract as I'm not clear on how law qualifications work.

However, I do know that the CAB are very well-respected for helping people cope with a range of issues. I suspect that a lot of the clients will have problems that they perceive as life-changing, and they will likely be in a real state by the time they get to you. You'll have the chance to help those people, and that will be incredibly rewarding.

you'll also learn about helping people with things they don't understand, and you'll meet a very wide range of clientelle.

Plus, of course, the training will be very useful and will fit brilliantly alongside your 'normal' studies.

I think it's a great choice. The 'moaning person' is a different person to you. Just because it didn't work for her doesn't mean that it won't turn out to be a great move for you!
